Captured in the midst of growing inflation in the Netherlands, Bus to Bocholt documents the multi-hour journey of a “Boodschappenbus” (“Grocery bus”), one of the several weekly chartered busses used by Dutch residents to travel to the German border town of Bocholt, for a few hours of shopping for cheap groceries, alcohol, and tobacco over the border, before returning home by the late evening.

Drawing inspiration from Martin Parr’s 1989 photo series One Day Trip, combined with a personal fascination of the phenomenon, Bus to Bocholt views how similar circumstances continue to take place, nearly 40 years after Parr’s original series.
